Of course, the number one priority we should have as parents is keeping our children healthy. When Felix and Lucia were growing up, I would make at-home remedies from our garden to help cure some of their ailments. Felix in particular seemed to catch illnesses often in his early childhood, so I became an expert at preparing different remedies. Here are some of my favorite herbs to keep in our garden:

Thyme- good for curing a cough or indegestion

Rosemary- helped Felix with toothaches

Chives- this one is my favorite. It's a pain reliever that soothes a sore throat, stops bleeding, and helps a sunburn

Fennel- eases congestion and stomachaches

Lavender- helps headaches and dizziness

Lemon balm- reduces fever and helps heal bug bites

But beyond physical health, much of a child's well-being depends on their overall happiness. I see great benefit in providing a child with toys to boost his contentment and imagination. Some fo Felix's toys that I would recommend for your child are whistles (but only outside... we didn't allow these in the house), wooden pull toys that look like chariots or animals, and pretend swords to imitate gladiator fights. Having good toys also helped Felix get outside and exercise, as well as form friendships with other young boys. I also highly recommend the board game ludus latrunculorum. I always had a great time playing it with Felix, and it helped him learn how to use critical thinking skills. Overall, at this age in a young boy's life, it's important to develop tactics to help him stay strong, healthy, and happy, whether that be through medicinal remedies or even something as simple as a good toy.
